Four people have been arrested in connection with the thefts of vehicles in Owen Sound and Meaford.
On Friday, an unlocked Dodge Caravan was stolen from a residence in Owen Sound. That vehicle was located unoccupied early Saturday morning in Meaford. It had been abandoned after becoming stuck in a ditch. A 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche was also stolen from a residence in Meaford.
Later Saturday, Owen Sound police located the stolen Avalanche in the 200-block of 8th St. E in the city. A short time later, police arrested four suspects in relation to both of these stolen vehicles. They face a total of 18 criminal charges.
Just a few days earlier, the Owen Sound Police Service launched its "Lock It or Lose It" campaign in partnership with police agencies across Ontario.
This is a community crime prevention initiative led by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police encouraging citizens to protect their vehicle, personal identification and parcels by following a few key crime prevention tips to keep your property safe:
1) Always hide or conceal your personal items, documents and parcels from plain sight 2) Always lock your vehicle 3) Park your vehicle in well lit areas
