Wingham Silver Stick Director Stepping Down After 30 Years

There will be a changing of the guard after this year's Wingham Regional Silver Stick midget tournament concludes today.

Grant Currie has been tournament director over 30 years, and will step down after this year to make way for Jason Goodall. Currie will remain on the tournament committee, and says the Silver Stick tournament remains an essential staple for minor hockey.

"We have a great program here and it's worked really well. Our kids on the lower end are always high in registration, and we have I think 5 teams going now for the Tyke program, and for a small town like this that's really great."

Currie says the tournament has been a big success, and it benefits local minor hockey.

"We've had a great run with it. The tournament expanded from 12 teams originally to 24, and we have 24 in Atom now as well. Very large tournaments for this area, and over the years the profit, it all goes back to minor hockey."
