Rural Talks To Rural Conference A Success In Blyth

The Project Director for this weeks Rural Talks to Rural conference in Blyth says he's very pleased with the results of the conference.

But Peter Smith is also very quick to point out there's a lot of work still to be done and it's now time to put talk into action.

Smith says one of the biggest successes of the conference was that it brought a lot of people together who would not normally be at the same meeting and working towards similar goals.

He was particularly pleased to see so many local mayors at the conference but it also attracted people from all over North American as well as Europe.

Smith says they'll get together later for a de-briefing and start working on the next Rural Talks to Rural conference, planned for 2018.

Smith points out one of the major issues that needs to be addressed is immigration.

He says it's the only way Huron County is going to get the population it needs but the message from some immigrants who attended the conference was that they still feel some resistance to immigration in small, rural communities.
