OPP Golden Helmets Return To Meaford Friday

The OPP Golden Helmets Precision Motorcycle Team will be back in Meaford this week.

They headline this year’s Meaford Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival parade on Friday, September 30th.

The Golden Helmets celebrated their 50th anniversary with a pre-parade show during Meaford’s Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival in 2013, and they'll be back this year to help celebrate the invasion’s 20th anniversary.

The Golden Helmets will perform on Sykes Street at 5 p.m. Friday, prior to the parade at 6 p.m.

During a recent visit to Meaford, Ride Master Sergeant Lise Grenier explained, "The Golden Helmets are not stunt riders. We are skilled riders who can show what these bikes can really do, safely."

Golden Helmets are regular uniform police officers who commit time away from their detachments and family life to promote good relations between the OPP and the public, according to Sgt. Grenier. "We share a passion for riding and we love to show what these bikes can do," she said. "Together we have raised more than $100,000 over the years for children’s charity programs."
