Local Job Prospects Continue To Improve

The unemployment rate in the Stratford-to-Bruce Peninsula economic region for July remained well below the provincial unemployment rate.

The local unemployment rate last month was 4.2%, and has been dropping steadily since March, when it was at 6.3%.

Employment gains in the economic region of Perth, Huron, Grey and Bruce counties were exclusively in full-time.

Most of the growth in the goods-producing sector was recorded in Manufacturing and Agriculture. There were also job increases in the recreation, information and culture sectors in July.

The Four County Labour Market Planning Board’s second quarter Hiring Trends Report shows there were 2,226 jobs posted in Bruce, Grey, Huron and Perth counties between April 1 and June 30.

Grey County saw the most jobs postings with 808, followed by Perth at 714, Bruce at 402 and Huron with 228.  The highest job postings were in sales and service, management, and trades transport and equipment operators and related occupations.
