Port Elgin Hosting First 'Farm To Table' Dinner

Port Elgin is getting set to host the first "farm to table" dinner event.

Jeff Carver, Port Elgin BIA president, says the event was inspired by a similar one in Tennessee.

"The idea stemmed from an article about a small town in Tennessee that did a farm to table dinner. They did this to raise awareness and interest in buying locally from farmers and producers in their own area," he says.

The four course meal will be prepared by chef Randy Felker, and Carver says Felker is producing the dinner from 100% local products.

"He is sourcing it from the local vendors that participate in the local farmer's market on a weekly basis," says Carver. "I guess the best way to get a snapshot of what food may be provided that evening is to visit the Port Elgin farmer's market on Wednesday's, and seeing what the local producers have to offer."

The dinner is being held August 12 at 6pm at the Green Street Parkette.

Tickets are $100 each, and are available at the Port Elgin farmer's market, and from local vendors.
