Suspected Coin Thieves Nabbed Near Owen Sound

Four people from the Kawartha Lakes area have been arrested near Owen Sound in connection with a series of thefts from coin machines.

The Owen Sound Police Service was contacted Wednesday evening by the owner of a laundromat, reporting that there had been a theft from a coin machine at the business.

Police were able to put out a description of several suspects and a vehicle to other police forces.

Just before midnight, the vehicle was stopped by a Grey County OPP officer and four people were identified as being possible suspects in the theft from the laundromat.

Two men and two women from the Kawartha Lakes area and the vehicle were turned over to the Owen Sound police. The two men were in possession of special devices that can access coin machines.

A further investigation determined that two other businesses with coin operated machines had them compromised and large quantities of coins had been stolen. A large quantity of coins was recovered.

All four suspects, all in their 20s, are charged with theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000. The two men are also charged  with possession of an instrument for breaking a coin operated device.
