Stratford And Goderich Represented In June Callwood Awards

A Stratford resident and Goderich organization have been recognized in this year's June Callwood Awards for Outstanding Voluntarism.

Callwood was a journalist and author who received the Order of Ontario and was one of Canada's most well known social activists. The awards for voluntarism are given in her memory every year, this year during National Volunteer's Week.

Roxie Baker of Startford, spent 23 years as president of Canada Auto Workers 1325, and lead the way for protections around sexual harrassment, equal pay and maternity and adoption leave benefits.

Also receiving an award is the Maitland Trail Association of Goderich, which has created and maintained more than 80 km of hiking trails in the Goderich community.

Since 2009, 150 individuals and groups have been awarded the June Callwood Outstanding Award for Voluntarism. This year, 11 individuals and eight groups have been chosen as recipients.
