Mount Forest High School Gets $10,000 Music Grant

Wellington Heights Secondary School is a musical place these days.

The Mount Forest high school is one of 77 to receive a grant from Music Counts to help purchase new music or art-related equipment.

Teacher Nichola McEwan explained, "Music Counts is the charity arm of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.  Wellington Heights was lucky enough to receive one of the grants this year, and we are extremely excited and happy that we can help improve our music program for our students.   There were definitely some tears in the music room when we  started receiving the new instruments."

McEwan submitted the application because she thought it was time the music department got an upgrade.  "Our music teacher, Mrs. Stewart, has been teaching 30 years, and she actually learned to play on some of our current instruments.  So, it was important, we felt, to get some new things to improve the program for our students."

The school has received part of the first shipment, with new drum skins, a bass clarinet, and a new bass guitar amp and carrying case.    Soon, flutes, horns, and other musical odds and ends will arrive at the school.
