Mitchell Applies For Kraft Hockeyville Contest
The Town of Mitchell has put forth a bid for this year’s Kraft Hockeyville competition.
Jamie Gethke of Gethke Construction, who coaches hockey locally, says Mitchell would be a deserving candidate.
“I know we have strong numbers in registration, the program has come a long way and we want to keep building it up,” he says.
Gethke says there’s a number of things he would like to see done with the $100,000 arena upgrade as part of the award for winning the competition.
“What we really need is another pad for the kids, for more practice time. Also, we need a new compressor. The current one has about a thousand band-aids on it and it is a time bomb according to the arena staff,” he says.
Submissions for Kraft Hockeyville 2016 are open until February 7, and Brussels is rumoured to have a bid in as well. Numerous other communities in Midwestern Ontario are also rumoured to be planning bids. The ten finalists that the public can vote on for the winner will be released March 5, with the winner receiving the $100,000 arena upgrade and the right to host an NHL preseason game at the rink.
