Knights stop Attack in shootout, 6-5

The London Knights needed a shootout to beat the Attack in Owen Sound 6-5 Saturday night.

The Knights move into a tie with Owen Sound for second place in the OHL Midwest Division with 20 points apiece.

The Attack scored back to back goals within the first six minutes of the opening period. Kevin Hancock scored the first one short-handed at 2:13, then Aidan Dudas doubled the Owen Sound lead over three minutes after. The Knights got on the scoreboard at 11:40 when Jacob Golden scored his first goal of the season, but the Attack got that goal back when Hancock scored short-handed. Cole Tymkin cut the London deficit to 3-2 before the intermission with his ten goal of the year. The Knights` Andrew Perrott earned a game misconduct for fighting.

London tied the game, then took the lead in the second period. Josh Nelson had the equalizer at exactly three minutes in, then Dalton Duhart put the Knights in the lead 14 seconds later. London kept the one-goal lead until there were 44 seconds left in the frame, when Owen Sound tied it at four-all with a Daylon Groulx lamplighter.

Both sides exchanged a goal each in the third period. Maksim Sushko gave the Attack the lead at 12:11, but Nathan Dunkley forced overtime when he scored for the Knights with 14 seconds left in regulation.

The overtime period came and went with no winner, with each team shooting twice at the net. Antonio Stranges was the only shooter to put the puck in the net in the shootout period.

Jordan Kooy took the win for London in net, stopping 39 shots in 44 attempts. Mack Guzda had 30 saves for Owen Sound.
