Komoka Kings Name Former OHL Goalie to Staff

The Komoka Kings continue to fill their coaching positions with former pros.

The junior B hockey team has named St. Thomas native Dave MacDonald as their new goaltender coach. MacDonald, who played his junior B hockey with the organization when it was the Petrolia Jets, later played in the OHL with Guelph and Sudbury before being drafted by the NHL's New York Islanders in the ninth round of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.

Though he did not play in the NHL, MacDonald turned to coaching, first with the London Jr. Knights and the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs. He says goalies play a psychological game as well as a physical one.

"For the most part guys at this level have the proper technique, it's just making some small tweaks that help them stay on top of their game," says MacDonald in a statement. "Some goalies have a tough time handling the mental part of the game, and that can have a ripple effect on other aspects of their game."

MacDonald joins former NHL pros Brian Dobbin and Jason Williams on the Kings coaching staff. The team has been filling positions since relocating to Komoka from Lambton Shores earlier this year.
