Knights Contain Sting 5-3

Sam Miletic and Janne Kuokkanen each scored twice as the London Knights defeated the Sarnia Sting Saturday night 5-3 at Budweiser Gardens.

Nikita Korostelev picked up a goal and an assist for the Sting, who fell to a tie for second-place in the OHL West Division with 19 points, one point behind the leading Windsor Spitfires.  London is in a second-place tie with Kitchener in the Midwest Division with 19 points, two points behind Erie.

Korostelev's assist came on the first goal of the game by Sarnia, off the stick of Jared Lindo, his sixth goal of the year.  Miletic's first goal of the night tied the game up with 5:40 in the first.  Korostelev would find the net himself later in the period, giving the Sting a 2-1 lead on the power-play at 17:49, the only extra-man goal of the game.  Just 18 seconds later, Miletic would answer back, knotting it up with his second strike of the contest.  Kuokkanen's first goal would come with just one minute left in the first stanza to give the Knights a 3-2 edge at the first intermission.

The Sting would not go away quietly.  Halfway through the second period, Sarnia would tie the game again, this time on a Sean Josling goal.  The score remained tied well into the third period when Cliff Pu put his eighth puck into the net this season on a short-handed goal.  Kuokkanen's second goal of the game, at 10:26 into the third, completed the scoring.

Emanuel Vela was the winner in goal for London, stopping 27 Sarnia shots.  Blair Coffin stopped 30 shots in a losing effort for the Sting.

The Sting hosts the North Bay Battalion Sunday afternoon while the Knights travel to North Bay on Thursday.
