Fire causes $250K damage to Mount Brydges antique shop

A serious fire has forced a historic antique shop in Mount Brydges to temporarily close its doors.

According to the Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Department, firefighters from all three municipal stations were called to the blaze at BrickYard Antiques and Repurposed Finds at 8898 Longwoods Road Tuesday morning.

"Firefighters were on the scene for 5.5 hours fighting the blaze," the fire department said. "The exceptional response of the suppression crew managed to contain the fire in one building."

No one was hurt, but damage from the fire is estimated at approximately $250,000.

Owners of the business posted early Wednesday that the antique mall would be closed "for the time being" due to the fire.

"Thank you to all the fire crews who spent hours battling the blaze in order to contain it," BrickYard Antiques wrote on its Facebook page. "We are so sorry for the losses to our vendors and the disruptions this causes to everyone involved."

The post has been met with an outpouring of support from the community with many expressing condolences and reminiscing about past visits.

The antique market is home to more than 90 vendors and is located on one of the area’s last standing brickyards.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the fire department said.
