Police officers hit with bear spray

Assault charges have been laid against a 37-year-old man who is accused of attacking three London police officers with bear spray.

Police were called to a home on Downing Crescent in southeast London around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday for an altercation that had turned violent. Two men were engaged in an argument and one assaulted the other, police said.

Officers arrived at the scene and located the suspect. While speaking with him, police claim the man "produced a can of bear spray and sprayed three officers."

Additional officers were sent to the residence and the suspect was arrested.

Police mentioned that a citizen sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident.

A 37-year-old London man has been charged with assault, assault by choking, three counts of assaulting an officer with a weapon, and resisting arrest. The accused will appear in London court on Friday to speak to the charges.
