Barn destroyed by fire in Delaware

It took firefighters from three different departments to douse a massive barn fire southwest of London.

The blaze at a horse barn at 2966 Brigham Rd. in Delaware broke out before 11:30 a.m. on Thursday. Thick, black smoke from the fire filled the air and was visible in south, southwest, and downtown London, leading to multiple calls to 911. A photo tweeted by Middlesex OPP showed the barn consumed by fire with flames shooting several feet into the air.

Firefighters from Middlesex, London, and Strathroy-Caradoc were all on scene for sometime working to extinguish the flames.

In an update late Thursday afternoon, Middlesex OPP praised all responding fire departments for their hard work and confirmed all horses inside the barn escaped the burning stables unharmed. No individuals were hurt either.

Water had to be sprayed on a nearby house on the property to protect it from the fire and heat, fire officials said.

"The fire has been deemed non-suspicious and the damage estimate is unknown at this time," OPP said.

Brigham Road between Longwoods Road and Elviage Drive was closed for roughly four hours while crews battled the blaze. It has since reopened.
