UPDATE: One dead in 401 crash

Provincial police say one person is dead after a collision on Hwy. 401 east of London.

Emergency crews were called to the westbound lanes near Putnam Road in Thames Centre at 1:41 p.m. Tuesday. Two vehicles had collided, sending one rolling into the ditch.

The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other people were taken to hospital with injuries described by police as "non-life-threatening."

"The OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team is on scene to assist with the investigation," police said on Tuesday afternoon.

The westbound lanes of the highway were closed between Culloden Road and Elgin Road for several hours while crews worked on the scene. Shortly after 7 p.m., police officials announced all lanes were open again.

"If you have any information or dash cam footage that may be helpful, please call the Middlesex OPP at 1-888-310-1122," police said in a media release.

No other details have been provided. Police say the identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
