Man and woman accused of assaulting St. Thomas cops

Four St. Thomas police officers suffered minor injuries in an alleged altercation with a man and woman in the north end of the city.

Police were called to a home in the city around 9 p.m. Saturday for reports of an unwanted person on the premises.

After arriving on scene, officers reportedly found grounds to arrest one a 31-year-old man for assault. When attempting to take the man into custody, police allege he resisted and assaulted two officers.

A 56-year-old woman tried to obstruct police during the man's arrest and assaulted officers, police said.

Additional police were called to the home and both the man and woman were taken into custody.

All four officers required hospital treatment for their injuries. They were all released and returned to duty, police said.

A 31-year-old man is charged with one count each of assault, and resisting a peace officer and two counts of assaulting a peace officer, while a 56-year-old woman is charged with assaulting a peace officer and obstruction.

Both of the accused were released with a future court date.
