Two suspects sought in theft from Central Elgin church

Police have turned to the public for help identifying two people who repeatedly broke into a church in Central Elgin, making off with items valued at $1,500.

Over the course of two weeks, Elgin OPP say a pair entered the Free Reformed Church at 145 St George St. on three separate occasions.

The first break and enter took place on the evening of February 26, but police said nothing was taken. The next morning at 5:20 a.m., two suspects once again made their way into the church, this time taking $1,500 worth of items, police said.

On March 13 between 12 and 12:50 a.m., two unknown people attempted once more to gain access to the premises. This time, police say an alarm was triggered and the suspects fled the scene.

Police released images on Thursday of two suspects believed involved in the string of break-ins.

The first is described as wearing a black coat, black New York Yankees hat, camouflage pants, and dark coloured shoes:

The second individual wore a blue latex glove on their left hand, a camouflage glove on the right hand, and a bucket hat:

Anyone with information regarding the break and enters or who may be able to identify these individuals is asked to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
