UPDATE: Victim identified, man arrested following sudden death investigation in London

One person has been arrested and two officers have been taken to hospital after London police were called early Saturday morning about a sudden death in the area of Kipps Lane and Adelaide Street North.

Emergency crews responded to a call about an unresponsive man at around 5 a.m.

Police said a man was located with serious injuries and pronounced dead shortly after.

Officers believed an armed individual was inside of a residence at 621 Kipps Lane, which resulted in buildings in the area being evacuated.

Police negotiated with the barricaded man for several hours.

London police said two officers were injured at the scene at approximately 7:30 p.m., and were taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. It was confirmed Sunday that the officers were shot.

At 8:30 p.m., police took one man into custody without incident. London police said a firearm was also located.

Police notified the public at around 8:40 p.m., that Adelaide Street had re-opened in both directions but a heavy police presence remained at 621 Kipps Lane.

On Sunday, London police identified the deceased as Joel A. Cameron of London. He was 41 years old.

Acting Chief Trish McIntyre from the London police will provide updates on the officers' conditions and charges laid at a conference on Monday.

The investigation is ongoing.
