Lambton County man arrested after foot chase on Oneida Nation

A Lambton County man accused of stealing a vehicle was arrested by provincial police after a brief foot chase on Oneida Nation of the Thames Thursday morning.

According to Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), at around 9:30 a.m., an Oneida Nation Police Service officer was on general patrol when he was made aware of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Keystone Place and Pheasant Drive.

When the officer attended the area and located the suspect vehicle driving on a service road, the driver reportedly tried to evade the officer, however, the vehicle became stuck in a ditch on Keystone Place.

Police said when the officer approached the stuck vehicle, three occupants got out and took off.

Middlesex OPP was dispatched to help capture the suspects and one person was arrested a short time later with help from local residents.

Members of the Emergency Response Team and OPP K9 Unit were also called to assist, although investigators were met with negative results.

The vehicle involved in the incident turned out to be reported stolen from London.

As a result, a 42-year-old Lambton County man was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, failing to comply with a probation order, and possession of break-in instruments. He was to remain in custody for a bail hearing.

Middlesex OPP continue to investigate the incident.
