Trucker accused of driving while impaired on Hwy. 402

A 21-year-old transport truck driver was arrested Wednesday after being pulled over on the suspicion of impaired driving.

On Wednesday just before 2:30 p.m., police say an officer from the Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation Police Service was on his way to the London OPP detachment when he observed a transport truck travelling eastbound on Highway 402 at Wonderland Road. A traffic stop was initiated after the officer suspected the driver might have been impaired. A member of the Middlesex County OPP also attended the scene to assist in the investigation.

In order to undergo further testing by a Drug Recognition Expert, the driver was arrested and taken to the Perth County OPP detachment, according to police.

As a result, the 21-year-old of Brampton has been charged with driving while impaired by drugs.

The accused has been released from custody and will appear in court on April 25 in relation to the charge.

Any information that could assist officers in this investigation can be directed to OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

"The Middlesex OPP wants to remind the public that if you see anything suspicious or suspect an impaired driver you should contact the [OPP] or your nearest police authority immediately," said a statement from police.
