UPDATE: Crash closes part of WB 401 outside of London

Police closed part of Highway 401 just outside of London due to a crash Wednesday evening.

Just before 6 p.m., police reported a collision on the westbound side of the highway near Colonel Talbot Road-Highway 4, which led police to shut down the highway. Just before 7 p.m., the highway was reopened.

No other details about the collision or possible injuries have been made available.

Middlesex County provincial police closed the westbound side of the highway from the Col. Talbot Road exit to Union Road in Shedden while crews worked to clear the area.

Most of southwestern Ontario remains under a snowfall warning Wednesday evening as heavy snow falls across parts of the region. The OPP have reported dozens of crashes on area highways since the snowfall picked up in the early afternoon. The precipitation has reduced visibility in some areas, and roads and highways in and outside of London are reported to be mainly snow-covered.

Police are advising travellers to give themselves more time to get to their destination and use extra caution while venturing out on roads and highways Wednesday evening. Snowfall is expected to lighten overnight. However, a few more centimetres are possible into Thursday.
