Dog sustains serious injuries in overnight stabbing

London police have laid charges against a man accused of stabbing a dog several times.

The 911 call came in Tuesday at around 3:10 a.m., according to police.  Officers responded to a residence in the city's north end and spoke with the dog's owner, who claimed that a suspect known to them had stabbed their pet multiple times before taking off from the scene.

Police say the wounded animal was taken to an emergency veterinary clinic for treatment. As a result of the incident, the dog suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

At around 5:15 a.m., police say the suspect returned to the home where the incident occurred. Officer re-attended and arrested the man. The 31-year-old London man has since been charged with one count of injuring other animals.

London police say they will not be releasing the name of the accused as it could identify the complainant. He remains in police custody and was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
