Careless driving charge laid in collision that killed London pedestrian

Just over two weeks after a pedestrian was killed in a collision near London's old north neighbourhood, a 21-year-old man has been charged with careless driving.

London police announced the charges against Dylan Van Den Kerkhof Smith on Tuesday. The charges stem from the January 7 collision at Oxford Street East and Colborne Street.

Kevin Mourant, 56, of London, was struck at the busy intersection around 8:30 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver stopped following the collision and remained on scene, police said.

Van Den Kerkhof Smith has been charged with careless driving causing death and driving without a licence. He is scheduled to appear in court in relation to the charges on March 6.
