Jessie Fleming nominated as FIFA Women's player of the year

Jessie Fleming, a world-class soccer player from London, has been nominated as the 2022 Best Women's FIFA Player.

This honour comes less than a month after Fleming was named Canada's Soccer Player of the Year for the second year in a row.

The 24-year-old midfielder was part of the Canadian women's soccer team that brought home the Olympic gold medal in 2021.

Last year, Fleming helped lead Team Canada to a second place finish at the Concacaf W Championship which qualified them for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Fleming was a top-scorer at the championships and was named to the tournament all-star team.

At the club level, Fleming currently plays for Chelsea Football Club based out of west London, England.  She helped her team win the FA Women’s Super League and take home the FA Cup during the 2021-2022 season.

In her nominee profile, FIFA describes Fleming as a "an energetic, versatile and intelligent" player.

Fleming is one of fourteen players nominated in her category of the The Best FIFA Football Awards 2022. Fellow Canadian, Coach Bev Priestman from Canada's national team is also nominated as the Best FIFA Women's Coach.

Voting is currently taking place for FIFA's annual awards.
