Petrolia woman wins Dream Lottery grand prize

Several local residents are ending the year with good fortune after winning in the fall Dream Lottery.

The top four winners were announced Wednesday morning at the Woodfield Dream Home in Talbotville. The property is one of three grand prizes available for this year’s luckiest lotto player.

The brand new 3,254 square foot abode is valued at $1.79 million and located just outside of London. The winner could also choose a Dream Home on Wheels, a prize package including a Ford F150 Lariat Hybrid, a $250,000 Can-Am Gift Certificate, and $750,000 cash. The final option for the Grand Prize winner is taking an all-cash prize of $1 million.

Mary VanDenBerge of Petrolia had the winning ticket.

Two additional prize winners were also announced Wednesday morning. Terri Foris of Woodstock was the runner up and has a choice between a new BMW X5 xDrive40i, or $100,000 cash. London’s Ellen Brown was the third winner. Brown will pick between a Dream Vacation for two to South Africa, London, Paris, Hamburg, and Peru, or $50,000 in cash.

Another London resident won the 50/50 prize pool. Donna M Stangio will bring home half of the $1,251,260 that was raised in the draw.

This semi-annual lottery is held in support of London Health Sciences Centre, the Children’s Hospital, and St. Joseph’s Health Care London.

“Every ticket purchased and every dollar donated make state-of-the art equipment, specialized treatment options and ground-breaking research possible,” said John MacFarlane, President and CEO of London Health Sciences Foundation.

“Thank you to everyone in our community who purchased a Dream Lottery ticket to support our hospitals,” said Scott Fornum, President and CEO of Children’s Health Foundation. “You're helping your friends and neighbours access life-saving programs, equipment, and research and that's wonderful!"
