Trudeau in London for dental-care announcement

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be in London on Thursday.

According to Trudeau's itinerary, he will be in private meetings before making an announcement on "delivering dental care for children under 12" at 1:30 p.m. He will be joined by federal Minister of Families, Children and Social Development Karina Gould, Canadian Dental Association President Dr. Lynn Tomkins, and Ontario Dental Association President and President-Elect Dr. Lisa Bentley and Brock Nicolucci.

No other details about Trudeau's visit or the announcement have been released.

Trudeau was last in London in June when he attended a memorial event and public march marking the one year anniversary of the alleged hate-motivated hit-and-run that killed four members of the Afzaal family.

Thursday's announcement coincides with the first day Canadians can begin applying for the new children's dental benefit for low-income families. The Canada Dental Benefit was passed on November 17 as part of Bill C-31, an affordability bill that also included a rental boost for low-income Canadians.

Under the dental benefit, families whose total income is less than $90,000 annually can get between $260 to $650 per child for care.

Eligible Canadians can apply through the Canada Revenue Agency.
