'Couldn't help but smile': London man wins cash for life

A London man is now the second person in his family who will be getting $1,000 a week for life.

Jason McMahon of London won the weekly dough with an Instant Cash for Life scratch ticket.

"I bought this ticket using some smaller winnings. The clerk at the store picked the ticket for me," McMahon said while picking up his winnings at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. "This win wasn't supposed to happen. We were supposed to stop at a different store."

The 35-year-old man has been playing Cash for Life regularly for the past six month and discovered his big win while at home.

"I couldn't help but smile. When I told my girlfriend, she couldn't believe it,” said McMahon. "Then I called my mom and grandmother. My grandmother won on Cash for Life seven years ago, so she was thrilled someone else in the family could share this experience with her."

McMahon said he plans to save and travel. He has his heart set on buying a camper van so he can see Canada from coast to coast.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Valley Farm Variety on Huron Street in London.
