What's open, closed and what to do for Thanksgiving in London

Many Londoners are preparing for Thanksgiving this weekend however, there are a number of closures to keep in mind over this autumnal holiday.

Thanksgiving Monday serves as a statutory holiday for Ontarians which means all government offices (municipal, provincial, and federal), along with schools, will be closed for the day. Canada Post will not be delivering mail and there will not be any garbage or recycling pickup.

A number of retail stores will also be shutdown for the day, so be sure to pick up any odds and ends you might need ahead of the holiday.

CLOSED:

• Malls (including White Oaks Mall, Masonville Place, and Westmount Shopping Centre). • Banks. • LCBO and Beer Stores. • Grocery stores. • Costco Wholesale. • London Public Library branches. • Most drug stores excluding Shoppers Drug Mart locations at 510 Hamilton Road and Sherwood Forest Mall at 1225 Wonderland Road North will be open from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m., the Byron location at 1224 Commissioners Road West will open at 9 a.m.- 6 p.m.

OPEN:

• Labatt Retail Store at 153 Horton Street East from 10a.m.- 5 p.m. • Movie theatres and most restaurants. • The LTC will be running on a Sunday schedule, normal service returns on Tuesday.

If you are looking for something to do on Monday, the Fanshawe Pioneer Village will be open for its final day of regular public programming from 10 a.m – 4:30 p.m., this includes a Thanksgiving luncheon from 12 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Apple Land Station will also be open from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Admission costs are $8 which includes access to the bakery, store or outdoor market, apple and pumpkin picking is available at an extra cost.

East Park is still open, minus the waterpark. The public can enjoy a number of outdoor activities over Thanksgiving Monday including go-karts, batting cages and golfing. Golfing runs from 9 a.m. (8 a.m. for mini golf) to dusk, while other activities offered begin at noon.

Whatever you get up to on the holiday, the weather is sure to please with the Environment Canada forecast on Monday calling for mainly sunny skies and a daytime high of 16 C.
