Suspect identified in racially motivated confrontation with store employee

London police have identified a suspect in a hate-motivated incident that saw a store employee berated and spat on.

According to police, a woman walked into the business in the area of Fanshawe Park Road West and Hyde Park Road around 1:30 p.m. last Monday. After a store employee greeted her, the woman allegedly began making racial comments and spat on them. She was escorted off the property, police said.

London News Today has been told the employee who was assaulted is a Muslim woman.

The store is less than two kilometers from the scene of a terror attack last year, which saw four members of the Afzaal family killed when they were hit by a car.

Police released a photo of the suspect around 10 a.m. on Wednesday in hopes the public would be able to identify her. Two and a half hours later, police confirmed they had learned the name of the woman pictured. They thanked the public for their help with the case.

The investigation is ongoing.
