Woodstock neighbourhood blocked off after person with weapon spotted

Woodstock police temporarily shut down a section of the northeast-end of the city Monday morning after a person with what was believed to be a weapon was spotted.

Reports about the possibly armed individual led police officers to flood the area of Springbank and Devonshire avenues.

The public was asked to avoid the area and obey all road closures while police conducted a search. The Thames Valley District School Board closed nearby Algonquin Public School for the day as a precaution. Students are being transitioned to virtual learning, with families advised to check digital platforms for details on learning activities.

By 9:30 a.m., police had cleared the area.

There is no word on whether anyone was arrested or if a weapon was found. Police have only said the investigation is "ongoing".
