Crash involving stolen vehicle slows 401 traffic near Dorchester

Provincial police are looking for the driver of a stolen vehicle that crashed on Highway 401 east of London.

The two-vehicle crash happened in the eastbound lanes at Dorchester Road in Thames Centre just after 6:30 a.m. on Friday.

When emergency crews arrived on scene, they found the driver of one of the vehicles had left. As part of the ensuing investigation, Middlesex OPP determined the abandoned vehicle had been previously reported stolen from Oxford County.

The OPP K9 unit was brought in to help search for the driver, but came up empty.

No one in the other vehicle was hurt.

The collision, which partially blocked one lane of the highway, slowed traffic during the morning commute. All lanes were cleared by mid-morning.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
