A day after receiving an endorsement from the London and District Labour Council, mayoral candidate Josh Morgan secured more high profile backers.
Local MPs Lindsay Mathyssen (New Democrat), Peter Fragiskatos (Liberal) and Karen Vecchio (Conservative) have thrown their support behind the two-term city councillor. The three gave Morgan the nod during the opening of his campaign office at 534 Oxford Street West on Sunday.
“Josh has a passion for our community. This combines with his intellect, sense of compassion and ability to work with others. These characteristics go along with impressive municipal experience both as a city councillor and deputy mayor," said Fragiskatos. "It's that record of service that has prepared him for the task ahead.”
Mathyssen applauded Morgan for what she described as his ability to "bring people together".
"Josh has the experience and the skills to move our city forward. I believe he will work well with all levels of government to find solutions for the challenges we face," said Mathyssen.
Vecchio said Morgan is compassionate, fair, and balanced. She added that over the past eight years, he has shown he is an "excellent leader" within London and in the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
"He understands the concerns of Londoners and knows the important role the surrounding communities play in our shared prosperity. He will be a great leader for the city," said Vecchio.
Current London Mayor Ed Holder, who is not seeking re-election, was the first to endorse Morgan as his replacement. That was followed by an endorsement Saturday by the London and District Labour Council.
"I am both honoured and humbled by the support I’ve been fortunate enough to receive since launching this campaign,” said Morgan. “Ultimately, the support that matters most is that which I receive at the door, and out in the community. That’s what I will continue to work hardest to earn.”
Morgan was first elected to London city council as Ward 7 councillor in 2014. He was re-elected to the position in 2018.
There are a total of ten candidates running for London mayor, including former London-Fanshawe MPP Khalil Ramal and Pastor Sandie Thomas.
The municipal election is slated for October 24, however, advance polls open on October 8.
