A brave dog kept a burglar from threatening his family after a suspect broke into a vehicle at a home in Elgin County last weekend.

The incident happened on September 17 at around 3 a.m., according to Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). During that time, an unknown man came across a residence on Talbot Line in Central Elgin and reportedly broke into a vehicle parked on the property.

Police say the suspect was then confronted by the property owner’s pet dog and he was chased off by the fierce pup.

The man took off with an unspecified amount of cash along with two Tim Hortons gift cards. He is described as thin, and was wearing a dark coloured hoodie.

Elgin County OPP continue to investigate the incident and anyone with information is asked to call police at 1-888-310-1122.
