The agency that investigates when citizens are injured during police activity is looking into the arrest of a man by St. Thomas police.

The Special Investigations Unit was called after a 29-year-old man was injured during his arrest by St. Thomas police officers. According to St. Thomas police, officers saw the man, who was wanted on multiple arrest warrants, around 1 p.m. on September 1.

Police tried to catch up to the man, who was riding a bicycle. He eventually dropped the bike and ran. Officers caught up to him and placed him under arrest. During the arrest, the man suffered an as yet undisclosed injury.

“As a result of what occurred, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) was notified and will lead the investigation in accordance with their mandate,” police said.
