Health unit names acting associate medical officer of health

A new second in command has been named at the Middlesex London Health Unit.

Dr. Karalyn Dueck was appointed as acting associate medical officer of health (AMOH) for the city and county on Tuesday. She will officially begin the role on September 12.

Dueck is no stranger to London. She completed her undergraduate at Western University before going to McMaster University for medical school. While getting her masters of public health from the University of Waterloo, Dueck also worked at the health unit.

"We are thrilled Dr. Dueck is returning to the health unit and joining our team as the temporary Acting AMOH. She brings exceptional knowledge of our community and public health to the role and we are excited for her to get started,” said Dr. Alex Summers, the region's medical officer of health. “The AMOH position is essential to our organization and Dr. Dueck’s expertise and leadership will pay significant dividends over the months ahead.”

Dueck's appointment is temporary and will initially last for six months, the health unit said.

The associate medical officer of health position has been vacant since Summers was promoted to his current role in March.
