Scorching weekend on tap

Residents of southwestern Ontario can expect another hot and humid weekend.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Saturday and Sunday. The weather agency says the warning covers the entire region, including London, Middlesex County, Elgin County, Oxford County, Chatham-Kent, Windsor-Essex, Sarnia-Lambton, Huron County, and Perth County.

Forecasters say temperatures are likely to hit 30 C both Saturday and Sunday with humidex values expected to be in the low forties.

The national weather agency says this type of weather can be dangerous for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, and people working or exercising outdoors.

"Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high risk category," it added.

Residents are advised to make sure they stay hydrated, try to stay in a cool place, never leave pets in a vehicle, and check on older family, friends and neighbours to make sure they are not being negatively affected by the heat.

Cooler temperatures are expected on Monday.
