Tillsonburg business vandalized for second time

The Indigo Lounge Wellness Centre has been vandalized twice in as many weeks.

Business owner, Kelly Spencer, said she feels "heartbroken inside" after this second incident, not only for herself but for the vandals too.

"They are so young," Spencer said. "That makes me sad. Somebody taught them to feel this way." She added that she hopes they can get some help and change their mindset.

The vandals are known to be young, because the police have photos and videos of them from neighbouring businesses.

"The police in this area have been amazing," Spencer said of the ongoing investigation. "They are taking it very seriously."

This time around two pride flags were burned,  patio items from the restaurant were damaged, the mirrors of Spencer's car were smashed, and other signage was damaged.

Spencer implores that members of the community remain loving despite hateful acts. "Stay in a place of love. Speak up when you need to. Stop conversations within your circle that are racist or prejudiced or whatever that is hateful. Keep being an ally for love and peace and unity for everyone. Open up your mind to create more unity and acceptance of diversity and inclusivity."

To the vandals themselves she asks that they challenge whatever beliefs have caused them to act out in this way. "It cannot feel good to be full of this kind of hate. To be looking over your shoulder in fear of getting caught... If an experience happened to you that is creating this, then get a therapist to heal it, whatever you need to do, because what you’re doing is going to hurt your life."

This instance is the latest in a string of related incidents in and around the region. Earlier this month, a 47-year-old Tillsonburg man and a 16-year-old from Norwich were charged by the OPP after several Pride flags were stolen or vandalized in Norwich Township.
