Crash in Bayham claims life of motorcyclist

One person is dead after a crash involving motorcycle in southeast Elgin County early Tuesday evening.

At around 5:49 p.m., Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle crash along Heritage Line in Bayham Township.

When officers arrived, they determined that a motorcycle was heading east on Heritage Line when it collided with a passenger vehicle heading west. The motorcyclist was ejected from the bike upon impact, suffering serious, life-threatening injuries as a result. The rider was later pronounced dead on scene.

The driver and passenger from the vehicle were taken to hospital out of precaution as their injuries appeared to be non-serious.

Police are not releasing the identity of the motorcyclist, pending the notification of their next of kin.

Investigators with the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team are expected to remain on scene until the early morning hours of Wednesday. During that time, Heritage Line will be closed between Mitchell and Maple Grove roads.

The investigation is ongoing, police say more details will be released as they become available.
