It is going to be a soggy start to the week for parts of southwestern Ontario.
Ahead of a cold front approaching from the west, showers and possibly thunderstorms will move in Monday afternoon. The rain is expected to intensify in the evening and by Tuesday morning rainfall amounts could total between 25 to 50 mm, Environment Canada said.
The significant rainfall has prompted the national weather agency to issue a special weather statement for Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, London-Middlesex, Sarnia-Lambton, Oxford County and Elgin County.
At around 11:30 p.m., the weather agency upgraded the weather statement to a rainfall warning for all the same areas, except for Elgin and Oxford counties. With the system, Environment Canada is also predicting some areas could see isolated thunderstorms.
The rain is expected to come to an end by Tuesday afternoon.
