Police seize $20M worth of pot plants in Norfolk County

Three people have been arrested after provincial police seized $20 million worth of illegal cannabis north of Simcoe.

Officers with the Haldimand-Norfolk OPP community street crime unit, provincial joint forces cannabis enforcement team, and emergency response team raided a property on Highway 24 in Townsend on Tuesday.

The search under the Cannabis Act turned up thousands of destroyed marijuana plants. The seized cannabis is worth an estimated $20 million, police said.

Three people were taken into custody without incident. Charges have not yet been laid.

Police anticipate more arrests will be made in connection with this investigation.

"Our Community Street Crimes Unit has been very effective with proactive drug investigations. This is yet another example that highlights how the police and Norfolk County By-Law Enforcement continue to work with members of the community in partnership to resolve crime," OPP Inspector Shawn Johnson said in a statement.
