Motorcyclist deceased after crash outside Port Dover

Provincial police in Norfolk County say they responded to several motorcycle crashes Friday afternoon, including a fatal collision outside Port Dover.

Shortly after 1 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers and emergency crews responded to a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle at Blueline Road near Highway 6.

Police determined that a motorcyclist heading north on Blueline Road collided with a vehicle going west on St. Johns Road. The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where they were pronounced deceased. The driver of the passenger vehicle did not suffer any injuries.

"Everyone travelling on the road, if you come up to an intersection where you see a stop sign, please make sure you check twice, it's gonna save a life," said OPP Acting Sergeant Ed Sanchuk.

The area was closed for most of the evening while members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team investigated and cleared the scene.

Sanchuk also reported Norfolk OPP were kept busy on Friday near Port Dover as motorcycle enthusiasts travelled to the town for Friday the 13th.

"We've responded to other calls involving motorcycle collisions. However, they were minor injuries," Sanchuk said.

The identity of the deceased has not been released.
