Maintenance work to close section of Highbury Ave. Wednesday

A planned eight hour road closure in south London is sure to cause some major delays for drivers on Wednesday.

Beginning at 6:45 a.m., Highbury Avenue between Hamilton Road and Highway 401 will be closed to all traffic. The closure is to allow for infrastructure maintenance and ditch work along the road.

"During this time, northbound traffic exiting Highway 401 onto Highbury Avenue will be directed north on Highbury Avenue at reduced speed to reach Bradley Avenue. Motorists must exit Highbury Avenue at Bradley Avenue and follow detour signs," the City of London said in a statement. "Motorists travelling southbound on Highbury Avenue will be detoured at Hamilton Road to use alternative routes to reach Highway 401 on-ramps."

Signage warning drivers of the planned closure is already in place, including along the 401 approaching the Highbury exit.

Drivers should expect delays throughout the closure, the city added.

Londoners who take this route aboard London Transit are advised to visit the LTC's website for a list of detours.

The stretch of road should reopen in time for the afternoon commute, around 3 p.m.
