Students at two schools in the Westmount area spent a brief time in lockdown Wednesday, as police dealt with a weapons call nearby.

London police were called just before noon Wednesday to the Westmount Shopping Centre for reports of a female youth believed to be in possession of a gun.

Police found the youth outside the mall and found a replica gun in her possession. Police say no threats were made and no injuries were reported.

"Staff at schools in the surrounding area were notified," police said.

According to the Thames Valley District School Board, Saunders Secondary School was and Westmount Public School were placed into lockdown for a short period of time.

"There were no injuries and there is no threat to students, staff, or the community," an email from Saunders to parents said. "Resources are available through the school to those who may require support in processing the impact of this event."
