What’s open, closed and what to do on Family Day in London

Londoners looking for something to do this Family Day will have some options to choose from.

Monday is a statutory holiday for Ontarians, so banks, schools, and provincial and municipal government offices will not be open. However, there will be mail delivery, as Family Day is not a holiday for federal employees.

DJ Skates will be at the outdoor rink at the Covent Garden Market on Monday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Attendees will get to enjoy live music, free hot chocolate and have access to skate rentals, and food from local vendors. The City of London said a few lucky skaters may win a free $50 Downtown Dollar gift card.

Boler Mountain will also be open on Family Day from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. for skiing and snowboarding, while tubing will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance online.

The Children's Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Family Day.

With maple syrup season about to begin, the Kinsmen Fanshawe Sugar Bush is offering a pancake breakfast and wagon ride tour beginning at 9 a.m. on Family Day. Reservations must be made online made ahead of time. MacLachlan's Family Maple Syrup and Pancake House will also offer pancake meals, tractor rides and self-guided tours on Monday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., with no reservations necessary.

Be sure to do any shopping ahead of time, otherwise, you will have to wait until Tuesday. Grocery stores, shopping malls, including White Oaks Mall, Masonville Place, and Westmount Shopping Centre, will be locked up for the day. The LCBO, Beer Stores, and the Labatt Retail Store downtown will also be shut.

Most pharmacies will not be open on Family Day. However, Shoppers Drug Mart locations at 1225 Wonderland Road North and 510 Hamilton Road will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

London Transit busses will be running on a Sunday schedule.
