Man charged in assault of police officer

A London man is facing accusations that he spat on a police officer.

According to London police, officers were called to a grocery store on Wellington Road around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 11 in regards to a man who was refusing to leave the property.

When police arrived, they found the man and noticed he was hiding some property from the grocery store inside his clothing.

"When the property was seized by police, the man became uncooperative and spat on one of the officers," police said."

The officer wasn't injured.

A 36-year-old man is now charged with one count of assaulting a peace officer.

He is to appear in court May 10.
