Chahbar appointed to London Police Services Board

A well known London lawyer and community volunteer has been tapped to fill the open seat on the London Police Services Board.

The Board announced Monday that Ali Chahbar has been appointed by Ontario Solicitor General Sylvia Jones to replace Dr. Javeed Sukhera, whose term ended December 11. Chahbar's appointment is for two months, pending the processing of an Order in Council for a three year appointment.

“It is my pleasure to welcome Mr. Ali Chahbar to the London Police Services Board," Board Chair Susan Toth said in a statement released by the Board. "I have had the privilege of knowing Mr. Chahbar for many years. He is a dedicated Londoner, a brilliant lawyer, and loving husband and father. Ali Chahbar will be an asset to the Board and community and I look forward to working with him."

Currently, Chahbar is the is the General Legal Counsel and Executive Officer with the Thames Valley District School Board. His involvement in the community has included serving on the boards of various non-profit entities in London, including the Boys and Girls Cub, Elgin-Middlesex Crime Stoppers, and Kids Kicking Cancer.

His father, former city councillor Ab Chahbar, served on the Police Services Board from 2006 to 2009.
