London prepping outdoor skating rinks

Londoners can start lacing up their skates again as city workers begin icing up three outdoor rinks for public skating this winter season.

Weather permitting, skaters may be able to hit the ice as early as Saturday when the rink at Victoria Park and skating trail at Storybook Gardens is anticipated to open. The Rotary Rink at Covent Garden Market will open Saturday, December 11.

"Londoners continue to receive the vaccine and continue to follow public health guidelines, making this announcement another indicator of the payoff for everyone’s diligence and hard work," said Mayor Ed Holder. "Our concern for safety is still top-of-mind, but we’re so happy to bring another holiday staple back for Londoners to enjoy."

Those planning to visit any of the rinks this winter are asked to follow all public health guidelines, including physical distancing of 2 metres from anyone who is not a part of their household.

If the rink appears too crowded to maintain a distance, city officials ask that you wait until there is enough space.

More details on the opening of the rinks and daily hours can be found on the City of London website.
