St. Thomas school to receive large addition

St. Anne's Catholic Elementary School will be receiving a provincial investment of $4.9 million, Elgin-Middlesex-London MPP, Jeff Yurek announced.

The money will be put towards an addition which will support the creation of 210 student spaces.

"This investment will provide choice and flexibility for families and new opportunities for the children of St. Thomas," Yurek said.

The project is part of a province-wide investment of more than $600 million to support new school and child care spaces that were recently announced.

There are currently more than 300 child care and education building-related projects in development across Ontario with more than 100 actively under construction. The government's aim is to create 19,700 new student spaces and 1,500 childcare spaces at schools across the province.

Bill Hall the Vice Chair of the London District Catholic School Board of Trustees said the investment is great news for the LDCSB.

"St. Anne’s is bursting with students. This addition will provide some much-needed space," Hall said.

The money should also help accommodate new students coming into the area.
